The interview that didn't go well

Reverse-engineered from your last interview

You were asked about carbon accounting, ESG reporting, and UAE federal law — and didn't have solid answers. Here's the targeted prep.

Top 10 to memorise

  • UAE grid factor ~0.42 tCO₂e/MWh (2024, falling)
  • Barakah 4 × 1.4 GW = 5.6 GW; ~25% of UAE power
  • Khazna PV1 tariff $12.88/MWh — world record (2024)
  • Al Reyadah CCS 800 ktCO₂/yr → EOR at Bab/Rumaitha
  • SBTi target 42% absolute reduction by 2030 (1.5°C)
  • GWP AR6 100-yr — CH₄ fossil 27.9, N₂O 273
  • PCAF facilitated emissions 33% attribution
  • Scope 2 — both location AND market-based (dual reporting)
  • UAE NDC 2024 — 47% by 2035 vs BAU
  • SCA threshold none — all listed PJSCs report

Common gotchas

  • TCFD is disbanded (Oct 2023) — say "TCFD-aligned via IFRS S2"
  • CSRD Wave 2 postponed to FY2027 (Omnibus April 2025)
  • GRI 2021 = impact materiality (not double; that's CSRD only)
  • SBTi paused O&G validations — ADNOC can't get SBTi target
  • RECs ≠ I-RECs — UAE uses I-RECs via Evident registry
  • District cooling = distinct Scope 2 stream (provider-specific factors)
  • Scope 3 Cat 15 = financed emissions (not commute, that's Cat 7)
  • CH₄ GWP is 27.9 (AR6), not 25 (AR4) or 28 (AR5)
